The Holy Virgin of Guadalupe:
The Immaculate Conception. The Holy Virgin of Guadalupe. Our Lady of Lourdes. Our Lady of Fatima. These are all titles for the same person - a wondrous masterpiece created by God. She is, as William Wordsworth so eloquently stated, "our tainted nature's solitary boast." She, the humble handmaid of the Lord is the terror of demons. She is also our Mother in the order of grace. Now, like any good mother, she is often misunderstood by her children. Some Christians believe that Catholics actually worship Mary. No, we do not worship her - we venerate her. By venerating her, that is, honoring her in a special way, we are actually giving glory to Our God Who created her. She is the new Ark of the Covenant in that she carried Our Lord in her womb for nine months. She remains the Ark as she continues to carry Him in her heart. That is why you often see pictures of Mary's Immaculate heart next to Jesus' Sacred Heart. |
